Custom Floral Preservation: The Designing Part

Floral preservation is a lengthy process. It takes up to 8 weeks for flowers to fully dry and flatten, depending on the thickness and complexity of each bloom. After weeks of waiting, florals are taken out of the flower press, and then the most exciting part comes — designing!

Pressed flowers, leaves, and buds are carefully set aside, with some of them waiting in a queue to be reassembled. The vast majority of the bulky flowers are either completely or partially taken apart, layered inside the wooden presses, and after completely dried and pressed they are reassembled, petal by petal. The prettiest pressed blooms are framed — we look for florals with interesting shapes and textures. We also love to work with rich and vibrant colors!

Flowers are thoughtfully arranged inside the double-glass frames. Depending on the quantity of pressed florals, a few different layouts/compositions are created and mockups are sent to a client to choose from. Here we work together by discussing the overall composition and frame colors. This is an ideal time for any changes or last-minute additions that need to be made.

Regarding the selection of frames, some clients are set on the frame color from the moment they book their preservation spot, while for others this might be the hardest decision in the entire process. For that reason, we do not require our clients to pre-select their frame (s), but we rather create a set of photographs with layouts outlined with both light and dark woods. Certain floral palettes complement much better dark sapele or walnut while others perfectly align with the light maple wood.

To make sure that our clients are 100% happy with their framed florals, we make sure to discuss the floral layout before permanently sealing the frame. After the final approval, foliage is carefully glued onto glass, and frames are sealed.

Voilà! Artwork is completed as so the wedding keepsake that will be enjoyed for years to come!
